K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Heat turned up on Moore and McCrory Donald Trump’s harsh attack on Russell Moore Monday lit up social media for days, and the conversation may not be over yet. In case you missed it, Trump tweeted this comment, "Russell Moore is truly a terrible representative of Evangelicals and all of the good they stand for. A nasty guy with no heart!" As president of Southern Baptists’ Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Moore may not represent all evangelicals (who does?), but he is a prominent voice for many evangelicals. Trump’s usual crass comments have galvanized many evangelicals. Furthermore, he has exposed his inability and/or unwillingness to demonstrate civility by not reaching out to Moore. A phone call to Moore would have demonstrated wisdom and won the respect of many. There is only one way to look at it – it was a very bad move. Since Trump admits he never asks for forgiveness, we should not expect him to reconsider his comments. We need not defend Moore. He defused Trump’s criticism by admitting on network television, "I am a nasty guy with no heart, which is why I need forgiveness of sins and redemption through the Gospel of Jesus Christ." Enough said! Our state is the target of our own country’s Department of Justice. Frankly it is unbelievable that President Obama’s administration would mount an attack on North Carolina that threatens the safety of women and children in public restrooms. But they are indeed doing just that. Their justification is based on flimsy conclusions they drew from the unrelated Civil Rights Act of 1964. Read the story here and pray for Governor McCrory as he stands courageously for decency. |
