Racial diversity in churches remains elusiveSanctity of Human Life Resources
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | The issue will not go away Most Baptist churches took time last Sunday to acknowledge Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Many others will do so this coming Sunday. The entire week is Sanctity of Life Week. It is a time of prayer and evaluation. It is a memorial that should expand to every day, every week and every month of the year. This is certainly not an issue on which we can yield ground, and it is an issue that will not go away. If we don’t speak up for the unborn, there is no one else who will. If our voices are not crying out for the men and women whose lives have been damaged or destroyed by the abortion and human trafficking industries, the world will be saturated with an evil silence. I appreciate the comments of Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) president Russell Moore last week. He said, "We also need to be working within our congregations to teach and remind ourselves that there is no such thing as a wasted human life. There is no person who is less than a person. Everyone, including the unborn, is created in the image of God and therefore, bears all of the rights of life and of liberty." Moore continued, "Let’s stand up for the unborn. Let’s stand up for women who are being harmed and hurt by the abortion industry and by predatory men who pressure them into abortions." A video with his entire statement can be viewed here on the ERLC website. This is a broad issue that covers so many basic, scriptural convictions relating to infanticide, euthanasia, human trafficking, adoption, foster care and much more. When human life is devalued we can expect the breakdown of all elements of decency in civilization. Remember, your Biblical Recorder staff has prepared a Sanctity of Life resource page to help you find some valuable resources quickly. Let us know if there are additional resources that you believe others will find helpful. Two quick reminders this week: (1) Don’t forget the Church Compliance Leadership Summit in Greensboro next week. It’s free and it will be helpful to your church. (2) As you plan your staff retreats and similar "off-campus" meetings this year, contact these facilities: Caraway Conference Center, Fort Caswell Conference Center, The Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove and the former Hollifield Center which is now the North Carolina Boys Academy. Each of them will welcome your call. One of these four centers is not far from you. Email me: [email protected] |
