Review: 'Manhood Restored' focuses
on Christ's redeeming work
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | A surprised, appreciated pastor Last Sunday I did something I have never done until now. I preached for a pastor who did not know that I was coming to preach for him. The deacons at First Baptist Church in Midland (Cabarrus Baptist Association) wanted to honor Pastor Thomas Gibbs for 18 years of faithful service. Without telling their pastor, but in cooperation with his wife Elizabeth they arranged for me to preach Sunday morning. When I arrived at the small church about an hour before the service, Tom had the first hint that something was about to happen. I appreciate church leaders who recognize the high value of a pastor who preaches the Word, diligently cares for the sheep and humbly leads the flock. I enjoyed listening to the testimonies of church members who value their pastor’s sacrificial investment in ministry. Having baptized Tom when he was a teenager, conducted his wedding, encouraged him to go to seminary and watched him grow in God’s grace, I was more than blessed to be part of such a day. What is your church doing to honor your pastor and staff this month? On another subject, GuideStone has decided to file a lawsuit on behalf of our pastors and churches who will be forced by Obamacare to practice ungodliness. This is a significant news item to watch. As we have reported, many businesses, colleges and Christian ministries have seen no other option but to hire lawyers to defend themselves from oppressive, immoral government regulations. Pray for the progress of these pieces of litigation as they move through the courts. This is a sad day for freedom and for Christians! As you pray, remember to pray for the annual meeting of N.C. Baptists next month. Are you receiving the prayer prompts in your email inbox? They are free. Sign up today. Click here to visit us on Facebook and "like" us! Email me: [email protected] |
