Annie Armstrong Easter Offering helps 'send hope'
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Getting the message across At the heart of the Christian faith is the conviction that gospel must be proclaimed. Tell it! Share it! Proclaim it! Preach it! Teach it! Sing it! We cannot be silent about the truth of the Bible. To do so would betray everything we believe. The word “communication” summarizes the many ways we get our message out to others. It also describes the way we connect with each other. It has been reported recently that baptisms are the lowest in 50 years, which means we are not getting our message across to the lost. Cooperative Program gifts have been on the decline for more than a decade, meaning we are not getting our message across to our own congregants. What we’re seeing is a failure to communicate. The irony is that we now have the best tools for communicating with each other than any generation in history has enjoyed. We need to take a step back and talk about what is happening here. That’s part of my motivation in writing this week’s editorial in the Biblical Recorder. Limited space does not allow me to be as thorough as I would like to be, but I hope you will read the editorial and consider my concerns. As always, feel free to share your thoughts with me. Milton Hollifield’s column in this week’s issue focuses on the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. This is the time when most churches launch their focus on prayer and giving for this very important mission thrust. I hope your church is on the team! Here’s a reminder: Daylight Savings Time weekend is here. Before you go to sleep Saturday night, move your clocks an hour forward. Be sure you also remind everyone in your church and Bible study group to set their clocks! Thank you for allowing your BR staff to serve you and your church family!
