K. Allan Blume BR Editor | The Biblical Recorder's next stage Time changes a lot of things – people, places, buildings, cultures – you get the picture. When it’s time for a change, we need to be ready to do what it takes to make those adjustments in life. The choices are not about our needs and personal preferences. It’s about what is best for the Kingdom. Last year I realized that it is time for the Biblical Recorder to evaluate the ways we serve North Carolina Baptists and look for ways to take the organization to the next level. Either I must do that and retire in a year or two, or new leadership needs to be identified now and allow that leader to provide visionary leadership to better serve our churches, ministers and lay leaders. Leaders are like the stages of a rocket. Each one burns with the energy needed to thrust the payload to new heights, then it is jettisoned so the next rocket can do its job. The payload is still the same. As you see in this week’s news, Seth Brown, content editor of the Recorder for the last four years, was elected by the Biblical Recorder’s board of directors to be the next “rocket stage” for this 186 year-old ministry. I fully support the board’s action and Seth’s pending leadership of this organization. I’ll have more to say about this in my columns in the next two months, but you can be sure that my words will be supportive. I believe strongly in the future of Baptist journalism in North Carolina, and I call on my fellow N.C. Baptists to fully support the Recorder. The most important thing I will do is to pray for the Recorder’s staff and board of directors. I am committed to this. Will you also pray for them? We appreciate the many emails, calls and comments on social media in support of the board’s election of Seth. It’s an honor to serve you and partner with you for the proclamation of the gospel from a biblical, Acts1:8 perspective – beginning here in our “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria” – and then to the ends of the earth.
