K. Allan Blume BR Editor | A HOT summer! It’s a hot summer in more ways than we want to admit. The temperature has been hovering in the 90s and even around the 100 degree mark for several weeks across much of the U.S. The unbearable heat forced the early shutdown of a major evangelical event on the open mall in Washington, D.C. last Saturday. Many other outdoor events have been cancelled or postponed. But I have not heard of one church that cancelled their Vacation Bible School. VBS must go on! VBS is a time that is well planned by adults and much anticipated by the children. Many lives are shaped by this ministry and many children meet Jesus as their Savior during the week. How’s your VBS this year? If you have any exciting stories about your church’s VBS, please share them with us. The heat has increased in some of the streets of America, also. Racial tensions have escalated. Violence and other expressions of lawlessness are on the rise. Attacks on those who are charged with keeping public order have become too common. We are approaching the extreme edge of civil behavior when our police officers are gunned down in the streets. Pray for the men and women who serve as officers of the law. Finally, pray for one of our sister churches in the state that lost their worship facilities last weekend. Read this story about Cherry Grove Baptist Church. |
