K. Allan Blume BR Editor | The year in review Welcome to 2014! Today you have 40,000 brand new laws and regulations to obey that were not on the books yesterday. You will not likely know what they are, but you’re not alone. There's a good chance that most of the legislators who voted for the laws did not read them either. And law enforcement agencies are scrambling to learn about them. What a mess! We are living in a time of extreme confusion. The famine of wisdom is obvious. This is certain: it didn’t come from God. "For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints" (1 Corinthians 14:33, NKJ). As we walk into this new year, the only certainties we have are found in the Bible, not in the world’s systems swirling around us. God is on His throne. He reigns. His Word is true. This is where we will find our security, hope and peace. Our staff hopes you enjoy the "Year in Review" material we included in this week’s edition of the Biblical Recorder. Some stories will make us thankful; others will grieve us. Hopefully, all of them will remind us to keep our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). I wrote a column in the current edition of the Recorder to challenge all of us in the area of financial stewardship. I believe today’s church desperately needs to confront this issue. We have danced around it and avoided it too long. Now Kingdom ministry is hurting from financial shortfalls. We can reverse the trends! Don’t forget – you can continue to give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The need is real, but the urgency for obedience is far greater! Our apologies for the stray BRweekly you received from us Tuesday. It was released by error. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you for your support of the Biblical Recorder. We are here to serve you as we serve the King of Kings together in 2014. Email me: [email protected] |
